Then, the best possible solutions can be prescribed for our patients. The Eye Care Center – Ballantyne provides optometry treatment for the entire family, including pediatric eye exams. After discovering the problem, our optometrist will prescribe everything from eyeglasses, sunglasses, or contacts to pre and post-op care for LASIK and all other surgical procedures. Some eye disorders we’ve treated are conjunctivitis, astigmatism, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and dry-eye syndrome.

What Is Age-Related Macular Degeneration?

Age-related macular degeneration is a condition within the eyes that causes blurred or reduced central vision. This syndrome is one of the leading causes of vision loss. With regular eye exams, most people will know they have it once they experience significant vision loss. This eye loss is an ocular disorder we take particular interest in, and two common forms are Dry and Wet Macular Degeneration.

What Is Dry Macular Degeneration?

Dry macular degeneration occurs from the gradual thinning of the macular tissue. This condition can lead to reduced central vision, while not immediately affecting peripheral vision. Symptoms of this condition include visual distortions, an increased need for brighter lights, and difficulty recognizing faces.

What Is Wet Macular Degeneration?

Wet macular degeneration is a disorder that causes blood vessels to develop underneath the retina, allowing blood and fluid to leak into the eye. This disorder causes scarring, which in turn produces blurred vision. Other symptoms are blind spots in central vision, diluted colors, and wavy, straight lines.
