Contact Lens FAQs

Contact lenses provide eyeglass wearers with an option to correct poor vision without the hassles of wearing prescription glasses. A family eye doctor on our team in Charlotte, NC, can provide patients with contact lens exams and discusses the options for contacts. In addition, an optometrist on our team at Eye Care Center - Ballantyne can discuss your concerns about contacts and the variety of specialty lenses available.

Contact Lens FAQs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions about contacts:

Who can wear contacts?

Contacts help correct poor vision and treat astigmatism, and multi focal contacts help people see near and far. An optometrist on our team can determine if you can wear contacts and if they are the best option for your eye care needs.

At what age can I start wearing contacts?

Several studies have shown that children can wear contacts; however, it is up to a family eye doctor to determine the right age for your child to get contacts. Everything from development stages to maturity and personal hygiene and motivation to not wear glasses can be considered during contact lens exams.

Are contacts safe to wear?

Contacts are safe to wear, and many of Americans wear contacts as part of their healthy vision care plan. However, an optometrist can determine if contacts are the best option for a patient’s vision needs.

Can I still get contacts if I need bifocals?

People who wear bifocals can wear contacts. Specialty contacts, including multi focal lenses, help people needing varying prescription strengths to see near, intermediate, and far.

Can I sleep in my contacts?

There are several contacts that are extended wear and safe to sleep in. However, it can be a good idea to speak with our team to learn more about your contacts and if the ones you are currently using are safe to sleep in.
