LASIK

General Information about LASIK

LASIK eye surgery is a laser procedure where an eye surgeon alters the shape of the cornea. By doing so, light can enter the eye and shine on the retina or at least closer to it, reducing or eliminating your need for contacts or glasses. This treatment is beneficial in correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Determining if You're a Candidate

Our eye doctor will evaluate to ensure the procedure is correct for you and safe. For instance, it's only beneficial to people with mild to moderate nearsightedness. If your vision is good, the surgery won't benefit you. The same applies if you have age-related changes to your eye. In addition, people with cornea problems, thin corneas, or large pupils may not qualify for this surgery.

You may be at an increased risk of complications if you have an autoimmune disorder or take a medication that weakens your immune system, such as chemotherapy or an immunosuppressant. You may need to wait for the procedure if you're pregnant or breastfeeding because these can cause hormonal-related vision changes.

People with glaucoma or cataracts shouldn't have this procedure. In addition, our practitioner will advise against if you've sustained an eye injury recently. Those with herpes simplex that's affecting the eye or uveitis may also want to avoid this procedure.

Helping You Prepare

Besides making sure you qualify for the procedure, our optometrist will also help you prepare for the procedure and educate you on what you can expect.

Our eye doctor will discuss how long the procedure is, what types of results you can expect, and if there are possible complications.

You'll receive information about preparing for the procedure, such as avoiding eye makeup at least before surgery.

While we can't provide you with an exact quote, we can inform you of the average price you can expect to pay for the procedure. That way, you can make an informed decision if you'd like to have a consultation with a LASIK eye surgeon.
