About Eyecare Center Ballantyne
We’re a patient-first, community optometry practice in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. We’re looking for an Optician who loves solving vision problems, crafting beautiful eyewear, and building lifelong patient relationships.
The Opportunity
As our Optician, you’ll own the end-to-end eyewear experience—from frame styling and lens selection to precise measurements, ordering, verification, adjustments, and repairs. You’ll collaborate closely with our doctors and front office to deliver seamless, high-quality care.
What You’ll Do
- Patient Styling & Education: Guide patients to frames and lens options that fit their prescription, lifestyle, and budget; clearly explain benefits (AR, photochromic, blue-light, progressives, specialty lenses).
- Measurements & Fitting: Perform PDs, fitting heights, segment heights, vertex/tilt/wrap as needed; ensure comfort, cosmetics, and visual performance.
- Order Management: Submit accurate lab orders; verify jobs (ANSI standards), edge and mount as needed, and manage remake authorizations.
- Adjustments & Repairs: Perform precise adjustments, nose-pad swaps, temple alignments, and minor repairs.
- Insurance & Billing: Verify vision plans (VSP, Eyemed, Spectera, etc.), calculate patient responsibility, and document benefits accurately.
- Inventory & Merchandising: Maintain a modern, well-balanced frame assortment; receive inventory, price/tag, and keep boards fresh and on brand.
- Pretest/Tech Support (as needed): Support pretesting and diagnostic imaging during peak times to keep patient flow smooth.
- Service Excellence: Handle issues with empathy and urgency; turn service recoveries into fans.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with the front desk and clinical teams to hit daily flow and revenue goals.
What You Bring
- Experience: 1–3+ years in optical dispensing required (boutique or medical practice setting preferred).
- Credentials: NC Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO) preferred; ABO/NCLE certification a plus. We’ll support the right candidate pursuing certification.
- Tech Skills: Comfort with EHR/PM systems; OfficeMate/ExamWRITER experience a plus; lab portals and lens vendor platforms (e.g., Essilor, Hoya, Zeiss).
- Quality & Detail: Strong ANSI standards knowledge, meticulous measurements, accurate orders.
- People Skills: Warm communicator who can simplify choices, overcome objections, and create a memorable experience.
- Sales Ethic: Consultative approach that prioritizes patient needs while meeting practice goals.
What We Offer
- Competitive pay $17 - $25 per hour + monthly performance bonus/commission
- Medical monthly allowance
- PTO + paid holidays
- Employee eyewear allowance & family discounts
- Training & Growth: Vendor lens training, frame rep sessions, ABO/NCLE support, leadership pathways
Success Metrics (How we’ll measure impact)

- Contribution to monthly revenue and second-pair sales
